And now the assualt begins.  First, flat-black, evil-looking, civilian  copies of military assault wepons were demonized and mislabeled as assault weapons.  Often these are .22 rifles that are made up to look “evil” because it appeals to some, despite them being the same as a kid’s .22 rifle.  Now, the .22 rifles are being targeted with the mentality that if we only outlaw them, the problem will be solved.

Murder is outlawed– people still get murdered

Drugs are outlawed– people still get drugs

Stabbings are outlawed– people still get stabbed.

Driving drunk is outlawed– people still drive drunk.

Flying jet airliners into buildings is outlawed– on 9/11 terrorist still did it.

See a pattern here?  Just SAYING something is bad, doesn’t make it so, and legislating against it, does not stop criminals from doing it anyway.  It boils down to prohibition, whether liquor, drugs, or guns.  The law-abiding among us will be dry, sober, drug-free, and disarmed.  But, the criminals and terrorists–the ones we fear– will NOT heed such laws and, quite likely, will feel empowered as THEY will be the only ones with guns.

No one wants drunk or drug-crazed lunatics assaulting people or misusing guns against them.  We don’t want people to be addicted to crack, heroin, or other drugs.  But anyone with a modicum of common sense realizes that banning THINGS will solve nothing but disarm the law-abiding among us.  The crack heads will still get crack, the junkies, heroin, the lunatics, guns.  Shooting people or using these drugs is already against the law– how do rational people believe otherwise???

Legislation is NOT the answer.  People are going to do bad things, wrong things, stupid things, as long as there are people on the planet.  Locking them up for hurting/assaulting others is a great step– judging people for what they DO, not what they own or ingest.  Education, treatment, and other help may prevent SOME of the problems, but do not delude yourself into believing that it will go away.  It will NOT, regardless of whether it is against the law or not.  Let’s stop punishing the responsible, the law-abiding, and focus on CRIMINAL activity, instead.

About Auntie BS

I am a proponent of ending prohibition and control of inanimate objects. History has shown that this is ineffective and a HUGE waste of resources. Judge people on what they DO, not what they own, ingest, talk about, or think. I abhor dishonesty and corruption and this will dominate my blogs.
